Insurers feel the heat

There were 14,000 fires in the UAE over a five year period between 2002 and 2007, with both 2007 and early 2008 seeing an unusually high number of such incidents. Dozens have died in a spate of fires in Egypt, which have hit everything from hotels and nightclubs to factories, while Kuwait has been battling with fires in residential areas for months and Bahrain has struggled with oil fires.
