Democrat Obama to be the first black US President

Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th US President on 20 January 2009. He faces several key challenges, not least the economic crisis which has dominated the US election campaign. , Obama's plans to tackle the economy may well have been the issue that won him the election – exit polls suggested that 60 per cent of US voters believe the economy to be the most important issue facing the President-elect.
