More tricky than Dicky, 40 years on
There are few of us around now who truly remember the impact in August 1971 of President Richard Nixon’s decision to end the convertibility of the US dollar to gold. Forty years on and the anniversary was marked by some economists and, as you’ll be aware, by the markets by accident – that is to say by volatility and worries about the US dollar, about the Euro zone, etc. etc.
