Rent

When I first trekked to the far end of Discovery Gardens one night I began to wonder if Christopher Columbus had it all wrong – that perhaps the world did have an end after all – and I’d just found it. The walk to where the compound dissolves into road and rubble is a very lonely one indeed. Darkened buildings, as deserted as the Mary Celeste, fortify empty courtyards and gardens whose plants have long since died of neglect. So, you can imagine my amusement when I read that 90 per cent of the area is occupied.
