More than meats the eye

Though we may pride ourselves on being a nation of animal lovers, it always astounds me that people from my home country have little concept of where meat actually comes from: many seem to think that chickens are hatched bread-crumbed between two baps. I was therefore surprised at the outcry there has been over British institutions serving Halal meat without informing the consumers: consumers who seem more appalled by the suffering of an animal in the few seconds before its death than the inhumane treatment that’s all too often inflicted upon it during its miserable battery-farmed life.
