As a not-so-wise man once said, “Life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get.” The phrase has occurred to me often during the course of the last few conferences I have attended, when I kept hearing the words ‘Shari’ah wrapper’. Conventional products with an Islamic veneer, such as Shari’ah-compliant derivatives, are garnering more attention as the Islamic finance world demands more complex products to manage risk and diversify portfolios.
